Week 3!
Salam Hamegi :)
It's been so much fun (and so challenging) to bring sabzi to the East Bay for folks to pick up :) I have enjoyed chatting with you all when you come pick up at Middle East Market! Looking forward to a lot more of that this season.
In this third week of harvesting sabzi, I'm really excited to be adding a small amount of purple basil from Iran to the sabzi mabzi bunches! The purple basil is not only tasty, but so delicate and beautiful.
I'm also going to be adding some beautiful feathery cilantro leaves and flowers into this week's bunch! Cilantro flowers taste milder and slightly sweeter than cilantro leaves. You can use them the same way, and they add a beautiful sparkle as a garnish. Here they are on a fig platter I made last year:
The bunches will also likely include lots of yummy dill from Iran, green basil from Iran, and radishes.
This week's flowers will include strawflower, a rosey luscious stock flower (Matthiola), and Persian cress flowers.
This weekend we had a couple of very high temperature days at the farm. We had to go plant and water and work anyways, and it was tough. I'm so proud of the plants for handling the heat well. Most of them looked unfazed. Although we probably will start to see a lot of plants bolting (starting to flower) soon in response to the heat.
Hello from Memo
